Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory skin condition characterised by scaly plaques typically over the scalp, elbows and knees.

It affects 1 – 3% of the population, where there are two age groups of onset

  • Under the age of 40, resulting from a positive family history (genetic basis)
  • Over the age of 40, with no family history (no genetic basis)

Treatment Options

1. Topical therapy

  • Tar
  • Steroids
  • Calcipotriol

2. Phototherapy (Ultraviolet, UVA and UVB Lights)

3. Systemic chemotherapy

  • Methotrexate
  • Cyclosporin
  • Retinoids

4. Biologics
